The LIFE STEWARDSHIP project publishes a report on training needs in the field of land stewardship

The LIFE STEWARDSHIP project, coordinated by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, aims to strengthen the professional capacities of all stakeholders involved in land stewardship from different sectors. To this end, its actions include the development of a training strategy through a participatory process and the implementation of pilot training activities.

As part of this participatory process, the report “Training needs of the land stewardship community in Spain” has been published, identifying the types of training prioritized by the land stewardship community. This work has been carried out by the Fernando González Bernáldez Foundation/EUROPARC-Spain, a partner in the project, which has initiated the process of gathering information for the development of the training strategy.

The document compiles the results of a survey conducted among people involved in this field and provides an overview of their training priorities.

The information provided by participants has revealed that their training in this field is mainly self-taught, based on experience, and that there is a real demand for specialized training.

Among the topics identified as priorities are those relating to legal issues, financing of stewardship projects, and application of technologies. Training needs have also been identified in the design, monitoring, and evaluation of conservation actions and management measures.

In terms of training methods, those based on practical experience in the field are considered to be the most useful, but online training is also considered useful due to the operational advantages it offers.

LIFE STEWARDSHIP will use this information to develop the training strategy outlined in the project with the aim of implementing a training program that can serve as a guide for other public and private entities.

The report is available in the resources section of the website.

THE LIFE STEWARDSHIP PROJECT

This work is part of the actions carried out by the LIFE CUSTODIA project until 2028, whose objective is to promote land stewardship as a social tool for nature conservation and restoration through innovation and collaboration between land or rights owners, companies, NGOs, and other entities.

The MITECO Biodiversity Foundation coordinates this project, with Eurosite, the Forum of Land Stewardship Networks and Entities (FRECT), the Global Nature Foundation (FGN), the Fernando González Bernáldez Foundation/EUROPARC-Spain, SEO/BirdLife, and Xarxa per a la Conservació de la Natura (XCN) participating as partners. It receives financial support from the European Union's LIFE Program.
