LIFE Stewardship Collaborates with Business Platforms to Integrate Land Stewardship into Corporate Strategies
The LIFE Stewardship project has promoted various avenues of collaboration with Forética, the Spanish Group for Green Growth (GECV), the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), and the Spanish Business and Biodiversity Initiative (IEEB), which is coordinated by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
This initiative aims to raise awareness and strengthen the role of land stewardship in the environmental strategies and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies of their respective member companies.
Each of these business platforms participates through mechanisms tailored to their nature and operations, within the framework of actions developed by SEO/BirdLife as part of the LIFE Stewardship project.
While there are excellent examples of responsible land management agreements supported or promoted by small businesses, this nature conservation tool has not yet been fully integrated into collaborations with large companies and NGOs. Through these alliances, LIFE Stewardship seeks to broaden the recognition of land stewardship as a tool for achieving corporate environmental objectives and to encourage its adoption in corporate policies.
By promoting voluntary agreements for the conservation and restoration of nature, land stewardship offers companies a way to fulfill their environmental commitments, address their critical dependencies on the natural environment, and find opportunities for sustainable investment.
COLLABORATION TO GENERATE KNOWLEDGE AND STRENGTHEN ALLIANCES
Additionally, the collaboration includes gathering information to develop a Good Practices Manual on Land Stewardship in Business, as well as disseminating this tool among the members of the four platforms.
With each group, a tailored work plan will be discussed and approved, aimed at supporting the incorporation of land stewardship into the environmental strategies and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies of member companies.
As part of this line of work, workshops on land stewardship targeted at the business sector have already been held, organized by the four platforms and attended by nearly 150 representatives from various companies.
LIFE STEWARDSHIP
The overall aim of the LIFE Stewardship project is to use land stewardship-based approaches to boost collaboration involving public and private entities as well as civil society for nature conservation and restoration in Spain, in the framework of the Europe Biodiversity Strategy 2030 and international agreements.
The project is coordinated by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Spanish Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, with the participation of Eurosite, the Forum of Land Stewardship Networks and Entities (FRECT), Global Nature Foundation (FGN), Fernando González Bernáldez/ Europarc-Spain Foundation, SEO/BirdLife and Nature Conservation Network (XCN) as partners. It has the financial contribution of the LIFE Programme of the European Union.
